Don’t Tie the Mattress to Your Car’s Roof
Is it safe to tie a mattress to the roof of your car? This creative solution is a go-to for many do-it-yourselfers. But, it’s also risky and could have unforeseen consequences. Don’t tie a mattress directly to the roof of your car. Securing the mattress by running a rope or twine through the windows or doors of your car can result in broken door seals and warped window frames. It can cost up to $1,500 to fix this damage. The safest way to use this method is with a roof rack.

Don’t Bend Your Mattress
Folding or bending the mattress can break the springs and filling, causing irreparable damage to your new purchase. If you’ve attached the mattress to your roof rack, make sure to avoid any overhang that might obscure the driver’s vision. Never use bungee cords. In most states, drivers are required to have clear vision through all windows of the vehicle. If the mattress hangs down in the back or over the windshield, you may be violating state law and could receive an expensive fine. Worse, you may get in an accident because of impaired visibility.

GoShare: What type of vehicle do you have?

Christian: I drive a Tacoma 2007. It’s a stick shift and I have a ladder rack. I used to be a cable technician, so the ladder rack comes pretty handy because now I can stack things higher, like the big king mattresses and well — it’s a Tacoma truck.

Despite being a full size, the Titan gets decent fuel economy for being a V8 powered truck, getting 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. Unfortunately, the Tundra doesn’t offer a V6 engine as some competitors do, which could provide for even better gas milage. This model featured a 390-horsepower V8 engine paired with a seven speed automatic transmission. 4. Chevrolet Silverado 1500

A close 2nd place for the full-size classification is the 2017 Chevy Silverado. Variations of this pickup are endless, with two-door, four-door, or crew cab options, with two bed options per size, rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, 4.6L V6 engine (285 hp), 5.3L V8 engine (355 hp), or 6.2L V8 engine (420 hp). The upscale interior of the cabin includes features such as a sunroof and a backseat entertainment system. Standard rear-wheel drive can tow 12,500 when properly equipped. The V6 option offers 18mpg city and 24 mpg highway which will save you money at the gas pump. The starting price is also less than other competitors in the full-size bracket, ranging anywhere from $27,585 to $51,650.

5. Ford F-150

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that the F-150 is our top choice for full-size pickups. Ford’s F series have been America’s best selling truck for the last 37 years, as well as best selling vehicle for the last 32 years.
